Pickering College is recruiting a dynamic, qualified Junior Teacher to support the development of the Sphere program for students in Grade 4 and 5. This role is part French and part overall classroom support. The interdisciplinary Sphere Program empowers students to master cutting-edge technology and design real-world solutions through immersive, outdoor learning experiences on both the main campus and the Blue & Silver Farm. The successful candidates must demonstrate superior teaching abilities and an eagerness to provide authentic learning experiences and community engagement for students. Our teachers must possess the following qualities: passion, compassion, instructional expertise and curriculum innovation.
This role jointly reports to the Assistant Head of School, Strategic Initiatives and the Junior School Director. The Sphere Program teacher is responsible for the delivery of the program curriculum, in addition to enrichment activities such as excursions, experiential learning, and ongoing program development.
This position commences Monday, August 31, 2026.
Specific Responsibilities include:
- Plan, prepare and deliver a one-of-a-kind program that seamlessly integrates French with the interdisciplinary projects the students are engaged in.
- Provide differentiated activities for a variety of learners.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff both at the main campus and at the Blue & Silver Farm.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behaviour.
- Create an environment that is conducive to learning and engaging to the age and interest of the students.
- Collect and display educational materials and student work.
- Implement all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
- Be sensitive to and support the social/emotional/behavioural needs of individual students.
- Supervise groups of students at recess, lunch, on day excursions, etc.
- Spend extended periods of time in the outdoors in all weather and seasons.
- Plan and lead overnight excursions.
- Coach/lead co-curricular activities
- Other related duties as assigned.
Experience and Qualifications Include:
- OCT Qualified Junior Teacher
- French as a Second Language (FSL) qualifications or equivalent
- Demonstrated tenacity for innovation and non-traditional learning experiences.
- Passion for experiential learning
- Experience in Outdoor Education
- Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong administrative and computer skills
- Current First Aid and CPR training is an asset
- Experience in differentiating program or Special Education AQ is an asset
- Prior Independent School experience an asset
Pickering College provides a competitive compensation package, including a Health Benefits Plan and participation in the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan. The salary range is based on our salary grid and ranges from $63,881 to $112,509
