Compensation & Placement: Salary is determined by the HTS Faculty Salary Grid, ranging from $63,900 – $97,000 for Faculty with up to 5 years of experience and $84,100– $124,800 for those with 5+ years of teaching experience. Final placement is based on recognized teaching years, degrees, and Additional Qualifications (AQs)

About This Faculty Role:
HTS has an exciting opportunity in our Student Success Department for a Grade 6 to 8 Student Success Counsellor. The candidate will function as a social-emotional and well-being support for middle school students, design and provide SEL programming, and support grade 8 students with their grade 9 course selection.
At HTS, we place our learners at the center of our work. The successful candidate will bring an innovative and personalized approach to our counselling program, activities, and resources while also bringing a fresh perspective to our existing program and practices. The successful candidate will assist students in the areas of personal/social growth. This role specializes in mentoring and guiding students through the social-emotional decision-making process, skills development and growth. All Counsellors provide individual and group counseling services and consult with students, parents, teachers and other school and community personnel to assist in meeting the needs of students. Additionally, Counsellors play a key role in connecting students and families with community support and building partnerships with post-secondary institutions.

What You Need:
We are inviting candidates with the following qualifications to apply:
- Post-Secondary Degree in education, social work or related field
- OCT certified and guidance qualifications considered an asset
- 2-3 years experience as a counsellor working with students preferably in an education setting
- Experience working with students and families, assisting them in navigating the social-emotional changes of growing up
- Working knowledge of ministry counselling directives/guidelines and ethics
- Exceptional communication skills and strong digital competencies
- Exceptional problem solving skills
- Demonstrated effectiveness in building and maintaining relationships
- Demonstrated effectiveness in working within a team
- Demonstrates knowledge of counselling theories, models and techniques for individual and group counselling
- Solid understanding of, and practices in accordance with, federal and provincial laws, and/or policies that relate to the privacy and protection of students and families
- Demonstrated ability in developing programs
