Summer ESL Teacher (2 positions) 9 Week Contract – Full-Time

Under the Direction of the Executive Director of Boarding/Camp and Health Services, Pickering College is recruiting two (2) qualified ESL teachers who also have subject specialties in the Ontario curriculum. The successful candidate must demonstrate superior teaching abilities in both ESL and their specialty, and an eagerness to support our summer program. We are seeking candidates who possess passion, compassion, expertise in their subject area, instructional expertise and proven curriculum innovation.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Classroom Instruction: Plan and deliver engaging, lessons that align with the English Literacy Development Curriculum that meets diverse student needs and allow for individual and collaborative work.
· Student Assessment: Evaluate and monitor student progress through assessment, assignments and feedback to foster growth and achievement, preparing them to write the TOEFL Junior Test at the end of each session.
· Classroom Management: Maintain a fun, positive and inclusive camp classroom environment that encourages respect, collaboration and a love of learning and English literacy development.
· Curriculum Development: Collaborate with colleagues to develop and refine fun camp curriculum materials and instructional strategies.
· Support Individual Learning: Provide tailored support and interventions to learners with varying abilities and English language skills to ensure their individual, academic and personal growth.
· Communication: Establish and maintain open, professional communication with students and colleagues.
· Trip Chaperoning: Accompany and supervise campers on off-campus trip(s) that are part of the curriculum.
· Camp Participation: Contribute to camp life through involvement in events and co-curricular activities as needed.
· Behavior Management: Uphold camp standards and address camper behavior in alignment with the Camper Handbook and Camp Code of Conduct.
· Maintain Cleanliness and Safety: Ensure a clean, organized, fun and safe classroom and activity environment.
· Pre-Camp Preparation: Participate in pre-camp activities, including training, setting up rooms, preparing activity spaces, and cleanup tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bachelor of Education, Intermediate and Senior qualifications
· ESL Qualification
· Expert and comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario English Literacy Development curriculum
· Strong technology skills
· Demonstrated passion for innovation and creativity in education
· Demonstrated commitment to students’ academic and personal success, including development of learning skills
· Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others
· Experience planning and leading excursions to enhance curriculum
· Ability to engage and execute an inspiring summer ESL Curriculum
· Teaching experience preferred
· Independent School experience is an asset
· This position works Monday to Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm.
