ESL Summer Camp Counsellor (7 positions)
9 Week Contract – Full Time
June 22-August 21, 2026
Under the direction of the Executive Director, Boarding/Camp and Health Services and the Summer Camp Director, Pickering College is seeking seven (6) Counsellors who are responsible for overseeing the physical, emotional, and psychological care and development of international residential campers ages 11-17. This requires supervising campers in the classroom, onsite and offsite, and ensuring that they have a happy and healthy experience. Counsellors will run after school activities for the campers including a variety of sports, arts & crafts and games, in addition to supervising campers on excursions in the local area and the GTA. ESL Summer Camp Counsellors are required to live on campus during the Summer Camp.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Camper Supervision: Provide 24/7 care, guidance, and supervision for campers, ensuring their safety and well-being.
· Activity Leadership: Plan, organize, and lead fun, camp and co-curricular activities, games, and events.
· Team Collaboration: Work closely with other staff members to create a positive and inclusive camp environment.
· Overnight Support: Live on campus (in a single dorm style room) with campers, offering overnight assistance and maintaining a safe, supportive atmosphere.
· Camper Engagement: Actively participate in all camp activities, serving as a positive role model for campers.
· Conflict Resolution: Address camper conflicts and challenges effectively, fostering mutual respect and understanding.
· Behavior Management: Enforce camp rules and expectations in a fair and consistent manner as per the Camper Handbook.
· Health and Safety: Monitor and promote camper hygiene, assist with basic first aid, and ensure adherence to camp safety protocols.
· Trip Chaperoning: Accompany campers on off-site trips, providing supervision and support, including one weekend trip each session.
· Pre- and Post-Camp Duties: Assist with camp setup, cleanup, and preparation before and after the camp season.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Ideal candidates will have previous camp experience and must be pursuing post-secondary education.
· Expertise and comprehensive knowledge of global issues and leadership
· Strong outdoor education background
· Innovative, creative and dynamic
· Demonstrate and articulate a passion for innovation and creativity in education
· Demonstrate commitment to students’ academic and personal success
· Demonstrated ability to lead teams and work collaboratively with others
· Ability to engage and execute objectives of Pickering College’s Global Leadership Program
· Coaching or camp experience preferred
· ESL qualifications an asset
· Independent School experience is an asset
· Ability to live on campus during the camp session(s)
