The Opportunity:
For the 2026-2027 academic year, we are seeking part-time Debating and Public Speaking Coaches to work with our Debating Team. With strong communication skills and a proven ability to build a caring rapport with students, the successful candidate will report to the faculty Debating and Public Speaking Coaches.
The Debating and Public Speaking Coach’s involvement in the debating program will include participating in assisting with the coaching of members of the school’s debating and public speaking team and acting as a chaperone to off-site events and competitions.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Assist with the coaching of members of the school’s debating and public speaking team;
- Preparation of young students’ for competitive debating and public speaking events;
- Responsible for the running of coaching sessions with students before provincial/local competitions;
- Through consultation with the faculty Debating and Public Speaking Coaches, help to ensure the sustainability of excellence in debating and public speaking at Branksome Hall;
- If required to chaperone, you will escort and supervise Branksome Hall students at specific debating tournaments, monitoring for safety and conduct.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- Working towards or completion of a University Degree;
- Previous competitive experience as a high school or university debater and/or public speaker at the provincial level (national and international competitive experience is an asset)
- Experience with different debate and/or public speaking styles (e.g. British Parliamentary, Canadian National Debate Style, persuasive speaking, interpretive reading) is strongly preferred
- Experience working with high school students in a coaching and leadership capacity;
- Good organizational and time-management skills;
- Strong research and problem resolutions skills;
- Tactful and diplomatic with communicating with students;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – both written and verbal;
- Ability to think in a critical and logical manner;
- Understanding of adolescent development;
Target Hiring Range: $50 Hourly
