POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Admissions and Communications is a member of the Leadership Team who reports to the Principal with key responsibility for admissions, including retention, marketing, and communications.
Responsibilities include the following:
- To oversee admissions of new students to the school, which includes presenting the school to prospective parents (school tours, Open Houses etc.); systematic and efficient handling of all inquiries, applications and communication with prospective parents; maintaining the admissions database; coordinating interviews of candidates and their parents; communicating admissions decisions to the appropriate individuals; transition into the school (i.e.mentor families, new parent information session, sharing information about new students with teachers); and exit interviews when families leave The Mabin School.
- To oversee the development and continuous improvement of admissions materials, publications, and marketing materials; to work collaboratively with the Mabin Leadership Team and staff to ensure that the Mabin brand is clear and recognized in the broader community.
- To implement practices to examine systems, mitigate bias, and ensure that all families experience the admissions process as accessible, transparent, and welcoming.
- To evaluate continually and redesign where appropriate all aspects of the admissions and marketing program with the goal of maintaining a capacity enrollment of qualified students and a wait-list of qualified applicants.
- To manage the re-enrolment of current students and enrolment of new students for the upcoming year; to keep relevant statistics on all aspects of the admissions process, re-enrolment, attrition and Grade 6 transitions.
- To oversee volunteers (i.e. parents, former parents and alumni) to assist in the admissions program; to develop new programs and services that make the school even more welcoming to parents, alumni, and visitors (e.g. Parent Ambassador program)
- To oversee all school communications, with responsibility for the weekly “Choosing Times” newsletter, the school's website, Instagram, LinkedIn and Facebook pages, as well as any other publications or social media campaigns created by the school; to coordinate and edit the "Changing Times" magazine (annual publication for alumni, current and prospective families that highlights the school's changemaker mission); working collaboratively with the Leadership team to plan and oversee all special events to ensure that they align with the vision and mission of the school, as well as the school's brand; to oversee the documentation of special events and the daily life of the school.
- To oversee the transition to Grade 7 process with support from the VP, Principal and Grade 6 team.
- To work closely with the Parent Association and attend all Parent Association meetings and events.
- To attend all Board meetings and present as needed
- To maintain congruency between the school's board-approved mission statement and all aspects of admissions, communications, marketing.
- To perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.
- To support the school and its leadership.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Relevant university qualifications, OCT qualification is an asset
- At least 2-3 years experience working in admissions in an independent school environment
- Experience in communications/marketing in independent schools is an asset
- Knowledge of independent schools in Toronto
- Demonstrated leadership experience in an educational setting
- Ability and desire to work in a collaborative environment
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, time-management and communication skills
- A strong understanding of the role of equitable admissions practices in shaping a diverse, inclusive, and mission-aligned community
The salary is determined by qualifications and years of related experience.and can range between $80,000.00 to $100,000.00. We offer a competitive benefits package, including participation in the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan if eligible and opportunities for professional development in a vibrant, collegial work environment.
