The Opportunity:
The Assistant Head, Student Life and Leadership is a pivotal leadership role responsible for the strategic design, delivery and oversight of a vibrant and inclusive student experience for both day and boarding students in Grades 7 - 12. Reporting to the Head, Middle School, the incumbent provides comprehensive direction for co-curricular programs, student leadership development, experiential education, and global engagement programs, ensuring they align with the school’s values, learning objectives and priorities.
The role balances high-level oversight of budgets, trips, and risk assessments with the hands-on mentorship of student leaders and faculty coordinators. By leading the execution of major school traditions, spirit events, and co-curricular activities, the Assistant Head fosters a culture of student agency, community belonging, and character development. As a member of the Management Team, they serve as a key liaison between various departments to ensure seamless operational coordination and the successful implementation of offsite and international programming.
Key Accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
Student Leadership and Publications
- Oversee Student Government as well as Student Leadership elections including Prefect, Clans, Clubs representatives and Councils;
- Mentor the Spirit Week Chair;
- Oversee school publications such as Slogan, Perennial, and the Elm Editor.
Student Programming and Community Engagement
- Lead, develop and coordinate weekly programming for Community Time in the Senior and Middle School to provide opportunity for student agency, mentorship and community engagement;
- Clubs, Clans and Co-Curriculars:
- Oversight of the Clubs program and mentorship of the Clubs prefect;
- Provide leadership to the Clans Coordinator, ensuring learning objectives of student clubs and activities are vibrant and engaging;
- Support the planning and execution of Clan events;
- Oversight of co-curricular programming, including assigning faculty each year.
- Collaborating with the Boarding team to support co-curricular and leadership opportunities for Boarding students and creating bridging connections between day and Boarding communities.
Student Life Programming and Events Oversight
- Lead the planning and execution of key school events such as Installation, Green Carpet, grade specific dances, Family formal, Prom and other signature events;
- Support Prefects and students in leading the planning and execution of Spirit Week;
- Collaborate with Head, Middle School and other colleagues as required in planning and executing Grade 7-12 events;
- Organize events that celebrate special school occasions and traditions, as needed;
- Oversight of appropriate budgets for Student Life programming.
Global Engagement, Experiential Education and Travel and Field Trip Oversight
- Provide leadership to the Exchanges program, ensuring the program provides meaningful opportunities for learning;
- Approve and oversee field trips for co-curricular activities and groups for Grades 7-12 such as MUN, Debating, Rowing trips, etc.
Candidate Profile:
- Post-secondary education and Ontario Teacher’s Certificate or equivalent is required;
- PQP, CAIS Leadership Institute or IB Leadership Candidate would be considered an asset;
- 5+ years directly related experience, including leadership experience;
- Knowledge of student leadership models and school life programs;
- Experience with IB would be considered an asset;
- Passion and commitment to girls’ education and specifically in Middle and Senior School grades;
- Ability to build rapport with students and their families and a range of constituents;
- Visionary leader who inspires, motivates and mentors a high performing team;
- Sound judgment and problem-solving skills, including tact and diplomacy;
- Solid understanding of the operations of a school and student life;
- Ability to collaborate and work well within a team;
- Belief in Branksome Hall’s vision, mission and school values.
This is a 12-month position, with vacation allotment of six weeks per year.

Target Hiring Range: $112,053.24 - $140,039.64
