Your Opportunity
UTS has moved back to its redeveloped home at 371 Bloor Street West. The redesigned site is located on the U of T campus and includes new athletics facilities. The UTS HPE and Athletics Program, is integral to our school’s ongoing commitment to Anti-Racism, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (AEDI), and is therefore focused on promoting awareness of how sport can build inclusion both on and off the playing field and within the overall student experience. We are seeking a passionate and principled teacher with both Health & Physical Education (HPE) experience, and a demonstrated commitment to anti-racism, equity, diversity and inclusion through sport, to join the school’s HPE Department. This is a full-time (100%FTE) Long Term Occasional position, starting September 1, 2026.
The successful candidate will be in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers, and will have:
- Intermediate/Senior HPE qualifications are required. Previous teaching experience required, with a minimum of three years of teaching experience preferred.
- Demonstrated involvement and leadership in curricular and co-curricular HPE and athletics, and
- Demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of the role of equity diversity and inclusion in school co-curriculars and athletics.
- Strong curriculum development skills and assessment practices that incorporate strategies relevant to the age and stage assessment practices;
- A relational educator who incorporates Social-Emotional Learning and emotional coaching strategies in their practice;
- Experience and/or commitment to incorporating DEI principles into curriculum development and teaching practice;
- Knowledge of relevant technology and able to work in a laptop and online environment;
- Adept at leveraging technology to deliver education program and correspond with students, parents, colleagues and the community at large;
- Passionate about teaching and being in service of students and the community;
- Ability to work both independently with little direct supervision as well as be a collaborative team member.
This is some of What you will be doing:
- Create a class environment and rapport that inspires and supports learning and personal growth;
- Motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a solid foundation for further education in accordance with each students ability;
- Establish positive relationships with parents, faculty and other staff members;
- Ensure the written, taught and assessed curriculum is in line with the IB and Ministry of Education curriculum ensuring differentiation;
- Develop culturally relevant, inclusive and responsive Health and Physical Education curriculum for diverse learners;
- Develop course outlines, unit plans, lesson plans ensuring integration of all aspects of the Ministry of Education curricula, with a focus on inquiry based learning;
- Update all necessary records accurately as required by the Ministry, and school guidelines;
- Communicate information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress including formally through report cards and parent-teacher meetings;
- Keep up-to-date and incorporate best practices in subject area and approaches to teaching and learning through professional reading, participating in workshops and other professional development opportunities;
- Participate actively in faculty and department/division meetings and meet regularly with all course teams to plan, review and update the written curriculum;
- Assume responsibility for and participate in co-curricular activities and supervision duties;
- Participate as an Advisor, mentoring students and meeting them regularly;
- Coach three seasons or a full year through the academic year.

Our Compensation:
UTS offers a highly competitive compensation package that includes;
- Base salary that is on the grid with an additional generous service supplement;

Target compensation range is from $71,000 to $94,500 depending on educational qualifications and years of teaching experience.
