Position Summary:
The Lower School After-School Care Program Supervisor supports a safe, welcoming, and well-supervised end-of-day experience for Lower School students (JK–Grade 6). Working as part of SJK’s After-School Care Team, the Supervisor provides attentive supervision and caring engagement with children outdoors on the playground and indoors in a classroom setting until students are picked up by their parents/guardians. The Supervisor contributes to a calm, positive, and nurturing environment grounded in high standards of child safety, professionalism, and relationship-based care.
Specific Accountabilities:
● Supervises Lower School students outdoors and indoors each day, ensuring a safe, orderly, and positive environment during after-school care hours.
● Maintains consistent supervision standards, including active scanning, proximity, and proactive risk management to support student safety and wellbeing.
● Supports safe transitions at the end of the day, including pick-up procedures and ensuring students are released to authorized adults.
● Builds a warm, caring rapport with children and supports a positive tone and healthy peer interactions during after-school care.
● Engages students in age-appropriate activities that support connection, play, and wellbeing, while fostering respectful behaviour and shared responsibility.
● Models and reinforces clear expectations for conduct, routines, and respectful communication in alignment with SJK’s community norms.
● Communicates effectively and professionally with parents/guardians at pick-up, providing clear, appropriate information as needed.
● Works collaboratively with colleagues on the After-School Care Team to ensure smooth daily operations, consistent expectations, and responsive student care.
● Shares relevant observations or concerns with the Director, Lower School (or designate) in a timely manner, maintaining appropriate discretion and confidentiality.
● Maintains a professional demeanour, calm presence, and sound judgement in routine and unexpected situations.
● Adheres to SJK policies and procedures related to child safeguarding, safety, and supervision, including appropriate documentation and reporting practices as required.
● Contributes to a respectful and inclusive environment in which every child feels welcomed, valued, and known.
● Contributes to SJK’s identity as a maturing IB World Continuum school by supporting student wellbeing, belonging, and balanced development through positive community routines and relationship-based care.
● Supports a coherent JK–12 student experience by aligning after-school care expectations and interactions with the School’s overall approach to student support and community life.
Qualifications and Experience:
● Experience working with school-aged children (JK–Grade 6).
● Experience working in a school setting and/or in a camp or youth program setting is preferred.
● A degree or diploma in Early Childhood Education is an asset.
● Positive, enthusiastic, and encouraging approach with a genuine interest in working with young children.
● Collaborative and solution-focused, with a strong orientation toward teamwork and shared responsibility.
● Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
● Proven ability to build caring rapport with children and communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
● Strong work ethic, reliability, and professionalism, including discretion and confidentiality.
● Willingness to learn and commitment to personal growth and development.
Workplace Requirements and Conditions:
● Primary work location is on-site at St. John’s-Kilmarnock School (Breslau, Ontario).
● Part-time schedule of approximately 12:30–5:30 p.m., Monday to Friday (5 hours/day; 25 hours/week).

The salary range is based on our current salary band and ranges from $40,000.00 to $60,000.00.
This is a part-time permanent position with a start date of August 31st, 2026.
