Summer Camp Leader – Multisport Camp

Ashbury College is a leading not-for-profit independent day and boarding school for students in Grades 3 to 12 located in Canada’s capital and on the traditional, unceded territory of the Anishinàbe Algonquin Nation. Located in central Ottawa, Ashbury College is seeking a full-time Summer Camp Leader for our Multisport Camp. The Camp Leader is responsible for planning and running the summer camp program in a way that is safe, developmentally appropriate, and welcoming of diversity and uniqueness. This position includes supervision throughout camp sessions, coordinating trip proposals with the Summer Principal and bookings with the Summer Administrator, collaborating closely with the Camp Manager and LIT Captain, and supporting the leadership experiences of Leaders-in-Training (LITs). The Camp Leader prepares draft weekly schedules in advance and helps set the tone for a positive, inclusive summer camp environment.
Multisport camp is a week filled with sporty excitement. Campers will dive into basketball, volleyball, soccer, and ultimate frisbee, building skills and confidence through friendly matches and teamwork focuses skills building. The week includes excursions to local sports venues and nature locations, plus supervised swimming at a pool.
Dates and Schedule:
- Camp Duration: June 22nd – 26th
- Daily Hours: 9:00am – 4:00pm (arrive by 8:45am for setup)
- Lunch Break: One hour each day
- Short Breaks: Scheduled by Camp Manager
Minimum Requirements
- Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) in good standing or certification in progress
- First Aid/CPR: Required (training can be provided if certification is not current)
- Vulnerable Sector Check
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated Experience Leading Summer Camps
- Demonstrated experience coaching youth

Specific Responsibilities Include:
- Plan and run the camp day-to-day, prioritizing camper safety and well-being.
- Prepare draft weekly camp schedules at least 1.5 weeks in advance; finalize schedules by the Friday before camp begins.
- Supervise all camp sessions and transitions.
- Supervise and mentor LITs, supporting their leadership by providing opportunities to take initiative in activities.
- Coordinate trip proposals with the Summer Principal and manage trip bookings through the Summer Administrator.
- Collaborate closely with Camp Manager and LIT Captain for weekly themes, staff and LIT breaks, and ongoing LIT support.
- Hold regular check-ins with the Camp Manager and/or Summer Principal to communicate updates or address challenges.
- Conduct headcounts for any changes in camper location to ensure accountability and safety.
- Provide behaviour management and immediate incident response in alignment with camp policies.
- Set up and reset equipment and materials at the start and end of each day.
- Lead a safety briefing for all campers on the first day, including a walk-through of fire routes.
- Ensure personal awareness of all camper medical and educational accommodations.
