We are looking for an enthusiastic, curious, and adaptable Teacher to join our Prep School Athletic Department. The primary role of the Director of Athletics is to lead an athletic program at the Preparatory School that is structured to allow all students to participate in a high-quality athletic program with the goal of developing character and well-being for life.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks:
Athletic
- Plan/coordinate inter-school and intra-school athletic programmes for the Prep school;
- Collaborate closely with the Upper School Director of Athletics to ensure there is a coordinated vision of the athletic philosophy and a continuity of approach;
- Oversee and organize all arrangements for tournaments and special athletic events, including liaising with other athletic directors, coaches, and athletic associations;
- Guide faculty in pedagogical best practices and facilitate the sharing of their expertise in the discipline of Coaching;
- Communicate on an ongoing basis, with key people including the Director of Academics, Head and Assistant Heads of Preparatory School, the Director of Athletics of the Upper School, IB Program Coordinators and all members of the faculty;
- Support with discipline as it arises in the athletic realm, including dealing with parents, other schools and liaising with Assistant Heads etc.
Academic
- Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, assemblies and various professional development opportunities;
- Collaborate with the Learning Leaders of Physical Education and Health and Life Skills, and our IB Coordinators to develop athletic teams based on UCC’s athletic philosophy;
- Collaborate with colleagues within the department and beyond, with humility and openness to feedback on all aspects of the role, from students, parents and colleagues;
- Teach classes, as assigned.
Administrative
- Working with Finance & Operations, prepare, submit and administer an annual budget;
- Coordinate Athletic Awards ceremonies and cocurricular assemblies;
- Provide the College with the scheduling of all athletic contests, arrange for necessary transportation, and hire game officials;
- Maintain necessary records and promptly complete required paperwork, demonstrating strong attention to detail, organization and planning;
- Ensure that all coaching positions are filled with competent coaches who are properly trained in all organizational and philosophical aspects of the athletic program;
- Collaborate closely with the Arts and Clubs Co-Curricular leaders to ensure a well-balanced offering of programs throughout the academic year;
- Collaborate closely with Prep Faculty and/or the Upper School on planning and organizing Prep and College-wide events (e.g. Terry Fox Run, Winterfest, Prep Games Day, etc.).
- Representing UCC on necessary CAIS and CISAA committees.
Co-Curricular, Coaching & Supervisory
- Lead with skill, passion and enthusiasm within our co-curricular program, including the arts, coaching and intramural games;
- Coach athletic teams as determined by needs, a minimum of two terms;
- Supervision duty as assigned;
- UCC students benefit from a robust co-curricular program including athletics. Many teams have the opportunity to participate in weekend and CAIS tournaments. Some CAIS weekend tournaments are out of province. The AD may be required to attend these tournaments.Job
Experience, Knowledge and Competencies:
- Bachelor of Arts degree;
- Bachelor of Education preferred;
- Teaching certificate preferred by the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT);
- Experience teaching physical education and athletic coaching required;
- Experience in equity, diversity, pluralism, and inclusion.
- Collaborative, energetic disposition with demonstrated creativity and passion for working with students;
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop strong professional relationships with students, colleagues, administration and parents;
