The Position
Rosseau Lake College is seeking an enthusiastic, innovative, and student-centered educator to join our faculty as an English Teacher for Grade 10 and Grade 12, providing long-term leave coverage beginning immediately. This is a fantastic opportunity for an educator looking to make an immediate, meaningful impact within a warm and close-knit school community.
The position is available at 0.5 to 1.0 FTE, beginning with a 0.5 FTE teaching responsibility from September through January. The teaching assignment consists of three blocks: two sections of Grade 10 English and one section of Grade 12 English, scheduled daily from approximately 8:30–11:15 a.m. There is the possibility of extending the position through June at a 1.0 FTE.
The successful candidate will teach Grade 10 and Grade 12 English courses aligned with the Ontario curriculum, helping students build strong literacy, critical thinking, and communication skills while nurturing a genuine love of reading, writing, and storytelling. Working collaboratively with colleagues across academic and co-curricular programs, this educator will help students grow as confident, articulate, and reflective thinkers.
Experience and/or interest in experiential learning, outdoor education, co-curricular leadership, or interdisciplinary programming is considered a strong asset.

Key Responsibilities
Academic Program
- Teach Grade 10 and Grade 12 English courses in alignment with the Ontario curriculum (e.g., ENG2D and ENG4U)
- Develop and implement learner-centered instructional and assessment practices that support student engagement and literacy achievement
- Foster inclusive, inquiry-driven, and relationship-centered classroom environments
- Integrate technology, experiential learning, interdisciplinary thinking, and real-world application into teaching practice
- Support differentiated learning approaches and collaborate with Student Success staff to meet diverse learner needs
- Prepare thoughtful assessment, evaluation, and reporting that supports student growth and achievement
- Participate actively in departmental collaboration, professional growth, and curriculum innovation
Community Life & Co-Curricular Program
- Opportunities to participate actively in the broader life of the school community, including co-curricular programming, athletics, outdoor education, clubs, service learning, or student leadership initiatives
- Support and model the values, standards, and culture of the RLC community
Qualifications & Attributes
- Ontario College of Teachers certification (or eligibility for certification) is considered an asset
- Undergraduate degree in English, English Literature, Education, or a related discipline
- Familiarity with Ontario curriculum courses including Grade 10 English (ENG2D/ENG2P) and Grade 12 English (ENG4U/ENG4C), or equivalent intermediate, senior secondary or undergraduate post-secondary courses
- Previous teaching experience in an independent school or experiential learning environment is considered an asset
- Demonstrated passion for innovative and student-centered teaching and learning
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and families
- Commitment to experiential, inquiry-based, and relationship-centered education
- Experience with outdoor education, interdisciplinary learning, or experiential programming is considered an asset
- Interest in contributing to the academic, co-curricular, and community life of an independent boarding school is considered an asset.

- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a dynamic school community
- Regular and ongoing communication with students, families, and community partners
- Candidates must be able to reliably commute to Rosseau Lake College’s campus in Rosseau, Ontario, or be willing to relocate to the greater Muskoka region, including Bracebridge, Huntsville, Seguin, Parry Sound, and surrounding communities
- Temporary housing is available on campus, if needed
- Successful candidates will be required to provide a current Vulnerable Sector Screening
Compensation
Salary Range: $54,854 – $112,560 (full-time, 1.0 FTE)
Compensation will be prorated in accordance with the confirmed FTE (0.5–1.0) and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
