Position Description
Our school is seeking a dynamic, reliable, and collaborative educator to fill a unique hybrid role designed to support our teachers and students and lead our end-of-day After Care program. This position is structured into two distinct phases: serving as a Support Teacher from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm and transitioning to lead our After Care Program from 3:30 pm to 6:00 pm.
This salaried, benefit-eligible role is ideally suited for a newly graduated certified teacher, or a dedicated education professional who values a predictable daily schedule, professional school integration, and the opportunity to build community connections with families across multiple grade levels.
Key Responsibilities
Phase 1: Primary Division Instructional Support (10:00 am - 3:30 pm)
- Partner with classroom teachers to facilitate small-group learning stations, child-led inquiry projects, and literacy/numeracy centers.
- Provide individualized assistance and differentiated care to accommodate varying learning profiles, ensuring all students are supported during core academic blocks.
- Take an active role in managing active transitions, lunch periods, and recess supervision, fostering positive social behaviour and emotional regulation on the playground.
- Assist teaching partners with daily classroom organization, documentation of student progress, and setting up collaborative materials for lessons.
Phase 2: After Care Program (3:30 pm - 6:00 pm)
- Function as the Teacher for the After Care program, creating a safe, and engaging environment for students staying on campus at the end of the formal school day.
- Plan and implement a balanced variety of activities, including outdoor physical play when appropriate, creative arts, quiet homework blocks, and healthy snack routines.
- Act as the primary face of the school during late dismissals, greeting parents professionally, answering operational questions, and ensuring a secure, orderly sign-out process.
- Maintain meticulous, up-to-date daily logs of student arrival and departure times, ensuring all parents or authorized guardians complete the mandatory sign-out process at pick-up.
- Ensure the after-school program spaces are left clean, tidy, and organized at the conclusion of the day; execute final lock-up procedures by securing all exterior doors and successfully arming the security system before leaving.
Qualifications and Attributes
- A Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.), or an equivalent professional qualification or experience in teaching.
- The unique organizational skill and energy required to transition seamlessly from a structured, supportive daytime classroom setting to an independent, active After Care program model.
- Proficiency with standard educational software, assistive learning tools, and school management platforms (e.g., Google Workspace for Education)
- A strong, functional understanding of student development across the Primary School (JK-2), Junior School (3-5), and Middle School (6-8), including the ability to adjust language, expectations, and instructional framing based on age.
- Exceptional communication skills, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively with Teachers, establish independent authority with student groups, and serve as a trusted point of contact for parents/guardians during pick-up.
- A self-starting mindset; the ability to walk into any classroom, assess the current learning dynamic or teacher's layout, and immediately identify where support is needed without waiting for explicit direction.
- An excellent track record of punctuality and personal accountability, necessary for managing a non-standard 10:00 am to 6:00 pm shift consistently.
- A commitment to confidentiality regarding student learning profiles, academic testing, tracking documentation, and sensitive family background information.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification, along with a clear, current Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC).
