Position Description
The Choir Teacher reports to the Director of Achievement and Wellness and is responsible for leading and supporting multiple choir groups across all divisions, fostering students’ vocal development and choral musicianship. The role involves working closely with faculty and students to further develop vocal and choral skills, as well as preparing for performances both within the school and in the broader community.
This position is evolving alongside the school’s growing enrollment and will include a part-time schedule during the school day, with occasional after-school commitments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the school choir program, including performances such as Remembrance Day, Winter Celebration, Primary Musical, and Closing Day
- Engage and manage multi-grade groups of students in an inclusive and structured environment
- Coordinate and support performance opportunities within the school and broader community
- Ensure alignment with KBS program expectations
- Support participation in external events (e.g., CISMF – Conference of Independent Schools Music Festival)
- Communicate effectively with families regarding the choir program
- Contribute to the overall well-being and growth of students
- Embed principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in all activities
Qualifications and Attributes
- OCT certification or equivalent is an asset, as is a degree/diploma in Music (vocal/choral focus preferred)
- Experience in choral instruction and preparing students for performance
- Strong classroom management skills
- Enthusiastic, collaborative, and student-centered approach
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to build strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced school environment
- Proficiency in Google Applications is an asset
Compensation
This is a part-time position with an hourly rate of $40-50, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
