Position Overview:
Pickering College is seeking an experienced and dynamic ESL / GLP Camp Director to join the Director Team leading the planning, coordination, and delivery of our International Summer Programs. These include English as a Second Language (ESL), the Global Leadership Program (GLP), and any other overnight summer programs that may be offered.
This role provides comprehensive leadership and operational oversight to ensure safe, engaging, and high-quality experiences for all campers and staff. Camp Directors work closely with the Camp Director, International Programs, who oversees overall program administration, and report to the Executive Director, Boarding and Health Services.
The Director Team collaborates across departments to manage scheduling, logistics, staffing, budgeting, and communication with families and agents.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Leadership & Operations
· Assist in the planning, scheduling, and daily operations of ESL, GLP, and other overnight summer programs.
· Ensure the delivery of an engaging, well-structured, and age-appropriate camp program.
· Facilitate airport arrivals and departures, weekend excursions, and evening activities in collaboration with the Administrative Director, other camp Directors and counsellors.
Administration & Logistics
· Oversee camper records and arrival/departure and camp program logistics.
· Prepare documentation, evaluations, and reports to support continuous program improvement.
· Liaise with Facilities, Food Services, IT, Transportation, and the Business Office to ensure smooth daily operations as needed.
Staffing & Supervision
· Help recruit, train, schedule, and supervise summer program staff.
· Implement staff schedules to ensure appropriate coverage and compliance with rest and supervision requirements.
· Provide leadership, coaching, and performance feedback throughout the summer program.
Health, Safety & Communication
· Collaborate closely with the Health Centre and camp staff to ensure compliance with all health, safety, and emergency procedures.
· Communicate regularly with parents, agents, and school partners regarding camper wellbeing and program updates.
· Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive camp environment rooted in Pickering College values.
Desirable Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Recreation, or a related field.
· Minimum 3-5 years of experience in camp administration, boarding schools, or international education.
· Demonstrated leadership in program coordination, scheduling, budgeting, and staff supervision.
· Exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including cross-cultural sensitivity.
· Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, during the summer program.
· Current First Aid/CPR certification.
· Mental Health First Aid certification an asset.
· Vulnerable Sector Check required prior to start date.
