Royal St. George’s College is seeking a proactive, engaging and knowledgeable Associate Director to support the University Counselling office. This role is critical to the secondary student experience, providing high-level guidance and support as they navigate the transition to post-secondary education.
As a key partner to the Director, the Associate Director oversees the end-to-end framework for post-secondary admissions, ensuring students are both supported and challenged in their pursuit of local, national and global educational opportunities. The successful candidate will blend technical expertise with a deeply student-centric, values-based approach to counselling. The ideal candidate will have experience guiding students to become confident, informed decision-makers who identify authentic institutional fit and pursue post-secondary paths grounded in personal fulfillment, authentic growth, and resilience.
This is a full-time permanent position reporting to the Director of University Counselling, that will work on a 10-month academic-year schedule. This role offers significant leadership opportunities within the University Counselling space.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Advising & Student Well-Being
● Engage directly with students to understand their interests and provide information, expertise and guidance on post-secondary opportunities.
● Support students with expertise and guidance in ensuring the unique requirements of applications are prepared and submitted, i.e. supplementary documentation, portfolios, videos, interview preparation.
● Deliver a holistic approach to counselling that prioritizes student well-being and encourages self-reflective practice, attuned to diverse cultural and individual perspectives and backgrounds.
● Support students and, by extension, their families, by navigating the milestones, pressures and complexities of the admissions landscape.
● Demonstrate an ability to provide empathetic and strategic support to students and their families during periods of difficulty, and complex decision-making.
Operations & Data Leadership
● Act as the main point of contact for coordinating post-secondary representative visits.
● Support the processing of official transcripts, mid-term reports, and reference letters.
● Help maintain meticulous records of applications, offers, and scholarships to prepare internal strategic reporting.
● Assist in curation and maintenance of student and parent facing information hubs and resources.
● Ability to leverage a diverse set of tools and emerging technologies to support the effective delivery of supports and services.
Programming & Community Engagement
● Collaborate on design and delivery of 9 through 12 post-secondary planning, including supporting the logistics and delivery of University Fairs, Parent Information Nights, grade-wide course selection, and frequent graduation year meetings.
● Act as a thought and execution partner across the school, collaborating with leadership, teachers and colleagues to support a community-based approach to counselling.
Institutional Liaison & Communications
● Act as a liaison between the school and post-secondary admissions offices (including usage of the OUAC, Common App, and UCAS), ensuring all digital and mailing requirements are met with accuracy.
● Attend professional development sessions, including networking events, campus visits and other information gathering opportunities.
● Work in collaboration with the Advancement office to foster continued connections and provide support for RSGC alumni attending post-secondary institutions at home and abroad.
Qualifications
● A minimum of 5 years of student-facing university/college counselling experience.
● Experience within an independent school environment is highly preferred.
● A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is required.
● A background in Psychology, Social Work, or Psychotherapy is considered an asset.
● Deep working knowledge of national and international admissions processes, specifically, OUAC, Common App, and UCAS.
● Exceptional proficiency in Microsoft Office (Advanced Excel), Adobe Suite, Google Workspace, and AI tools including Flint, Google Gemini, and Google Gems.
● Familiarity with CASEL or similar Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) frameworks is an asset.
● An interest in, or willingness to support the delivery of a Careers course, an asset.
● Must be a meticulously organized professional capable of engaging diverse stakeholders.
● A strong interest in maintaining an active presence in broader student life and school community activities.

The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $110,000 and reflects the required experience and qualifications for this role. Final compensation and total rewards will be determined based on the successful candidate’s unique skill set and may vary from the listed range.
Eligibility to work in Canada and clearance of a Criminal and Vulnerable Sector Background check is required.
