Wheatley School is a co-educational independent day school located in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. Since 1986, the school has been inspiring students to become lifelong learners. Wheatley is an Accredited Montessori School (serving ages 18 months to Grade 4) and an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School (Grades 5 to 8). Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate, collaborative, and nurturing Lower Elementary Guide to join our vibrant Montessori community for for the upcoming September 2026 - June 2027 school year for a 10-month full time contract position. The successful candidate will lead a mixed-age Lower Elementary classroom (typically ages 6–9) and foster a joyful, engaging, and academically rich environment grounded in Montessori philosophy and practice.

Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain an authentic Montessori Lower Elementary environment
- Deliver engaging Montessori lessons across the curriculum, including language, mathematics, cultural studies, science, and geography
- Observe students carefully and maintain accurate academic and developmental records
- Support individualized learning plans and foster student independence
- Build strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and classroom life
- Collaborate with faculty on curriculum planning, student support, and school initiatives
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, school events, and community activities
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment aligned with the school’s values
Qualifications
- Montessori Lower Elementary certification (AMI, MACTE-accredited, or equivalent)
- Ontario College of Teachers certification is considered an asset
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field preferred
- Minimum 3 years of teaching experience in a Montessori elementary environment preferred
- Strong understanding of child development and Montessori philosophy
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and respectful community engagement
- Current Vulnerable Sector Check or willingness to obtain one
