Pickering College is an independent day and boarding school in Newmarket, Ontario. The Marketing & Communications Officer will support the school in how it shares its story, strengthens its brand, and engages its community. This role acts as the primary intake point for marketing and communications requests, coordinates incoming work across the school, helps prioritize competing needs, and ensures content is delivered accurately, consistently, and on time. Working closely with the Senior Communications Manager, this role plays a key part in maintaining quality, alignment, and flow across all communications.
This role combines strong writing and editorial skills with hands-on execution of marketing and communications initiatives that support enrolment, development, and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Marketing & Brand Support
- Support the implementation of the school’s marketing and communications strategy
- Maintain consistency of the Pickering College brand across all channels
- Align messaging with enrolment, development, and engagement priorities
- Identify opportunities to strengthen visibility among prospective families
- Ensure consistency and coherence across audience touchpoints
Campaign & Initiative Execution
- Execute integrated marketing and communications campaigns supporting admissions, development, and school initiatives
- Support the development of audience-focused messaging and coordinate channel delivery across digital, email, web, and print
- Collaborate with admissions and development to support engagement and conversion activities
- Track campaign performance and share insights to support continuous improvement
- Coordinate communications for key seasonal initiatives and admissions events
Writing, Editing & Content Development
- Write, edit, and produce stories, articles, and campaign content that reflect the Pickering College experience
- Translate institutional priorities into clear, audience-focused messaging
- Serve as an editorial gatekeeper for assigned content, ensuring accuracy, tone, and consistency
- Maintain high standards of writing quality across all communications
- Balance storytelling with strategic messaging needs
Publications & Community Communications
- Coordinate production of the monthly school newsletter and key publications
- Maintain and update the editorial calendar across parent, alumni, and internal communications
- Coordinate contributions from across departments and ensure deadlines are met
- Proofread and edit a range of institutional communications
Digital & Email Communications
- Update and maintain content across digital platforms, including the school app and internal website portals
- Ensure digital content is current, accurate, and aligned with institutional messaging
- Support execution of email marketing campaigns and audience segmentation
- Monitor engagement metrics and flag opportunities for improvement
Intake & Project Coordination
- Act as the primary intake point for marketing and communications requests across the school
- Coordinate incoming requests, clarify objectives, and help prioritize work with the Senior Communications Manager
- Support delivery of projects from concept through completion, ensuring timelines and quality standards are met
- Provide input on messaging, timing, and channel selection
- Help maintain clear workflows and processes that support efficient communications delivery
Qualifications & Skills
· Post-secondary education in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, English, or a related field (an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated experience in professional writing and communications will be considered)
· 2–5 years of experience in marketing, communications, or a related field
· Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a proven ability to produce clear, accurate, audience-focused content across multiple formats
· Experience supporting or executing integrated marketing and communications campaigns
· Strong project coordination and organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities
· Experience with content management systems, email marketing platforms, and digital communications tools
· Ability to interpret basic performance data and apply insights to communications work
· Experience working with multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced environment
- Experience in education or nonprofit environments is an asset

The salary range for this role is $60,000 to $70,000.
