Associate Teacher

Associate Teachers report to the Head of Elementary and are responsible for providing coverage across various teaching positions during faculty absences. Associate Teachers also provide classroom support throughout the work cycle, attend departmental and faculty meetings, assist with duties and supervision, and contribute enthusiastically to the school's vibrant community life.
The expectations and outcomes of Teachers vary somewhat when Teachers do not incur full-time responsibility for a classroom and its activities unless otherwise stated (e.g. lesson plan responsibilities). However, Teachers are expected to fulfill the role of replacement teacher and/or support teacher in an exemplary manner in all areas. This is a one (1) year contract. This position will commence late August 2026.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks:
# 1 - Responsibilities – Classroom
- Stepping into various teaching roles when teachers are absent
- Supporting students’ in-class learning
- Participating in faculty and department meetings and activities
- Ensuring a welcoming classroom environment in a manner that reflects the Lauremont commitment to supporting students and their families, and the motto “I am Known”
- Supporting the growth and development of individual learners through the delivery of the Montessori philosophy
- Establishing good relationships with teachers, staff and parents across the school community
- Being an active and positive participant in the extracurricular and community life of the school
- Maintain an orderly and attractive classroom, mindful of the principles of Montessori
- Maintain appropriate student behaviour through effective classroom management
- Evaluate and interpret student learning in a professional manner
- Maintain a record of daily lesson plans
# 2 - Responsibilities – School Community
- Maintain a standard of professional behaviour, within and beyond the classroom, which exemplifies Montessori principles
- Promote and create a collegial and supportive environment with the co-teacher and teachers from other grade levels
- Participate in faculty meetings and activities
- Maintain an orderly and attractive school environment in accordance with Montessori principles
- Participate in community activities, related but not limited to, student development, parent education and public relations, such as school concerts
- Work collaboratively with colleagues
- Seek out and participate in co-curricular activities each academic year for the benefit of students and the school community
- Determine and participate in professional development activities to support personal growth and the School's growth and development
# 3 - Responsibilities – Academic Support
- Fulfill the role of a classroom teacher in the event of a teacher’s absence from his/her assigned classroom
- Provide academic support to students, designated by classroom teachers in consultation with the Academic Head and the Student Success Team
- Act as a resource for the production of classroom materials as designated by the Academic Head.

Qualifications:
- Ontario College of Teachers certification, or Montessori Elementary Teacher Training
- Undergraduate degree
- The ability to instruct in a laptop environment
- A proven ability to collaborate and contribute as a team player
- Demonstrate professional approach and work ethic
- A commitment to the highest standards of teaching
- A satisfactory current Vulnerable Sector Check
- A satisfactory current Child Welfare Record Check from CAS
- Current First Aid CPR, and AED
The set annual salary for this position is $55,167.
