Position Overview:
The Privacy & Information Security Manager plays a central leadership role in ensuring the College’s digital environment is secure, privacy-compliant, resilient, and future-ready. Reporting to the Director of Technology Integration & Innovation, this role leads the College’s privacy, cybersecurity, and data governance programs while supporting digital governance, innovation (including AI), and change management across PreK–12.

Responsibilities:
Privacy & Cybersecurity
- Lead the College’s Privacy and Cybersecurity Program.
- Maintain Records of Processing Activities (ROPAs) and conduct Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs).
- Perform vendor privacy and security assessments for new technologies.
- Oversee data loss prevention (DLP), phishing simulations, and staff training.
- Ensure compliance with PIPEDA, PHIPA, and applicable legislation.
- Maintain policies, standards, and procedures for digital and physical data security.
- In partnership with the IT Manager, contribute to the IT Risk Register and support annual cyber insurance renewal.
- Report regularly on privacy and security posture to College stakeholders.
- Maintain privacy and security policies and procedures related to external IT contractors.
- Run phishing simulations.
Digital Governance
- Support alignment of on-premise and cloud systems within a cohesive digital ecosystem.
- Maintain IT governance standards, workflows, and approval processes.
- Support system architecture, access controls, account lifecycle management, backups, and recovery practices.
- Contribute to infrastructure planning and technology roadmap discussions.
Data Governance
- Lead development of a College-wide data governance framework.
- Oversee data quality, lifecycle management, and system integrations.
- Collaborate with departments to standardize dashboards, analytics, and reporting practices.
Digital Innovation & Emerging Technologies (including AI)
- Co-chair the AI Committee.
- Evaluate emerging tools, including AI, automation, and workflow platforms.
- Advise on long-term digital strategy and responsible technology adoption.
- Communicate risks, opportunities, and best practices to non-technical audiences.
Emergency & Risk Leadership
- Act in partnership with IT Manager to lead cybersecurity incidents, privacy breaches, and disaster recovery.
- Support and contribute to investigations related to privacy, cybersecurity, and digital conduct, taking a proactive, preventive approach aligned with the Code of Conduct.
- Maintain incident response plans and collaborate with the IT team to assist with tabletop exercises.
- Support business continuity planning and risk mitigation efforts.
Team Mentorship & Engagement
- Mentor IT staff, co-op students, and new team members.
- Deliver workshops for parents, faculty, staff, and students on privacy, cybersecurity, digital safety, and AI literacy.
General IT Responsibilities
- Support IT projects, maintenance windows, updates, and installations as an asset.
- Contribute to policy development and day-to-day IT operations when needed
Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
- Privacy management training is required.
- Preferred certifications include CIPP/C, CIPM, CIPT, CISSP, Security+, Network+
The successful candidate should have:
- Strong knowledge of Canadian privacy legislation (PIPEDA, PHIPA).
- Experience managing privacy programs and cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO).
- Technical experience in systems administration, networking, and security tools an asset.
- Knowledge of data governance and system integration best practices
